Richard W. Schutz, Sr., 82, of 428 N. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, passed away with his family by his side Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.
He was born February 3, 1943 in St. Marys, son of the late Bernard and Rita Smith Schutz. He was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1961, and a retired employee at Keystone Powdered Metal, where he worked since graduating from high school and retiring in 2005.
Richard is survived by his daughters: Donna Wendel of St. Marys, Valerie Schutz of Virginia, and Apryle Ovell of Georgia; son, Richard W. Schutz, Jr. of St. Marys; six grandchildren: Brendan Wendel, Kaylee Fulkerson, Richard Schutz, III, Samantha Schutz, Harley Ovell, and Alyn Ovell; one great-grandson, Michel; two sisters: Patricia Brennen (Tom) of St. Marys and Dyanne Kerfoot (John) of Treasure Lake; a brother, William Schutz (Sandy) of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark Wendel; a brother, Bernard Schutz; and mother to his children, Susan M. (Frey) Schutz.
Richard was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed going to the casino with family and friends. He also looked forward to attending car shows and was proud to show off his 1965 Chevy Impala SS.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12:00PM with Rev. Ignatius Camello, O.S.B., celebrating.
Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857, on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 10:30AM until 11:30AM.
Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to Family House, 5308 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

Richard was a great guy to everyone that knew him . He will truly be missed.
