Wm. James Zwald

Wm. James “Jim” Zwald, 73, of 143 Larch Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.

He was born March 19, 1939 in Olean, NY, son of the late Clarence and Nina Dandois Zwald.  He was a resident of St. Marys since 1960.  He was a graduate of Cameron County High School, Class of 1958 and graduated from Penn State DuBois with an Associates Degree in Accounting.  He was a retired employee of the St. Marys Carbon Company, serving as Human Resource Manager and retired in 2001 after 33 years of service.

On June 18, 1960 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Sandra B. Salter, who survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Jean Zwald of St. Marys and Maryland and JoAnn (Roy) Seltzer of St. Marys; a son, David J. (Beverly) Zwald of West Jordan, Utah; six grandchildren, Britney (Jared) McDougall, Christine Zwald, Aaron Zwald, Clarissa Seltzer, Zachary Seltzer, Alex Seltzer and Andrew Seltzer; a great granddaughter, Violet McDougall; a daughter-in-law, April Zwald of Ridgway; two brothers-in-law, Wayne (Hazel) Salter of Florida and Dan Slade, Sr. of Smethport; three nephews, Daniel, Gary and Tom Slade; and three God daughters, Christine Zwald, Jill Cunningham and Trisha Meyer.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Zwald on April 1, 2012; two grandchildren in infancy, Scott Zwald and Evan Seltzer; and by a sister, Rachel Zwald Slade.

Mr. Zwald was a member of the Queen of the World Church, a 50 year member of the Crystal Fire Department, where he served as past president and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight and past treasurer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
