William F. Handwerger, 78, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of Erie Avenue, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Pinecrest Manor, following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 21, 1937, in St. Marys, son of the late Frank and Barbara Weiss Handwerger. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys and Central Catholic Schools. He was a retired employee of Airco Carbon Company, where he had worked for 34 years.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Fritz; and a brother, James N. Handwerger. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Handwerger was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, the St. Marys Moose, and the Knights of Columbus.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
