Wayne M. Eckert

Wayne M. “Moose” Eckert, 84, of 151 Jackson Road, St. Marys, unexpectedly passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Penn Highlands DuBois, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 18, 1942, in St. Marys, son of the late Richard J. and Helen Vollmer Eckert. Moose was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Military Policeman. Moose was a retired employee of Keystone Carbon Company, retiring with more than 40 years of dedicated service.

On June 23, 1978, in St. Marys, Moose married Sandra Jane Steele, who survives. They were blessed to share 48 years of marriage.

In addition to his loving wife, Moose is survived by his daughter, Tammy Lee Imperial of Lancaster; his son, Ronald Feldbauer, Jr. of St. Marys; six grandchildren: Bradley Joseph Leviski, Angela Marie Main (Ethen), Natasha Lynn Dipoalo (Sean Quigley), Thomas James Thompson (Matthew Thomas Kane), Lacey Marie Tomaselli (Christopher), and A.J. Hawks (Sarah); three great-grandchildren: Adalee Mae Dipoalo, Elaina Christine Anne Quigley, and John Brody Tomaselli; daughter-in-law, Amy Feldbauer of Kersey; his siblings: Joyce Feidler of St. Marys, twins, Mary Ann Cunningham (David) of Northeast and Ronald Eckert of St. Marys, and Charlene Geyer (Dennis) of St. Marys; a brother-in-law, Jerome E. Steele of Ocean View, DE; many nieces and nephews, including his “special angel”, Holly Eckert, and her daughters, Josie and Seanna VanAlstine, and Doug and Mark Geyer and their siblings who have been a great source of help over the years; and by his caretaker, Brie Cousins.

In addition to his parents, Moose was preceded in death by his son, Dean Feldbauer; a niece, Jackie Campbell; his brother-in-law, Jerry Feidler; and sister-in-law, Sandy Eckert.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and found some of his greatest joy in hunting, fishing, and exploring the beauty of nature. He especially enjoyed traveling to Canada and out West, spending time pursuing the activities that he loved.

Moose truly was a jack of all trades – a hardworking man who could figure out how to fix, build, or create just about anything. Through determination, skill, and countless hours of hard work, he built his own house, a beautiful log cabin with a fireplace and hearth created from stones he personally dug from the earth. Not only did he build his own home, he helped with building multiple others’ homes as well.

His most cherished time was spent with family, especially his grandchildren, spending much of his time teaching them life lessons or reading books together. Moose will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul who will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 10:00AM, with Rev. Thomas Curry, O.S.B. officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Mary’s Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 8:15AM until 9:15AM.
