Walter “Sonny” A. Pistner, Jr. 84, of 108 Pistner Road, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025.
He was born April 26, 1941, in St. Marys, son of the late Walter and Marion Zwald Pistner, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1959. He was the proud second generation owner of Pistner Auto Shop, Inc. in St. Marys where he spent most of his time training the third generation.
On October 12, 1963, in St. Leo’s Church, Sonny married Kathryn M. Newell, who survives. He and Kay were blessed to share sixty-one years of marriage.
In addition to his loving wife, Sonny is survived by his daughter, Jacquelyn Surra (L. Dave) of Coal Hollow; his son, Chris Pistner (Lisa Lavella) of Dagus Mines; grandchildren, Sierra Hoffman (Nate) and Alexa Pistner (Coby Novak); his sister, Patricia Wehler; and his brother, Jack Pistner of St. Marys.
Sonny was a faithful parishioner of Queen of the World Church. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and could often be found at one of the many clubs in which he belonged. He enjoyed his time at camp with his family, traveling, and going to the casino with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing, treasure hunting at yard sales, and building fires in his pavilion. He will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Queen of the World Church on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 10:00AM with Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, celebrating. Visitation will be held in Queen of the World Church on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 9:00AM until the time of service. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
