Vilmer W. Buchheit, 96, of 586 Fillmore Road, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the family hunting camp in South Kersey.
He was born February 21, 1916 in St. Marys, son of the late Charles and Germaine Goetz Buchheit. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Company, retiring in 1980 after 43 years of service.
In 1939, in the St. Mary’s Church, he married Frances A. Herzing, who preceded him in death in 1976.
He is survived by four sons, Raymond Buchheit of St. Marys, Richard (Linda) Buchheit of St. Marys, Gerald Buchheit of St. Marys and Donald (Sharon) Buchheit of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, James Buchheit and William Buchheit; two sisters, Verna Hanes and Marlene Schatz; and a brother, Earl J. Buchheit. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Buchheit was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and was a member of the St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club. He enjoyed cooking, his camp and especially his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
