Ulmar L. Fritz, 98, of 147 Straub Avenue, St. Marys, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday evening, August 17, 2013.
He was born January 25, 1915 in St. Marys, son of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth Jacob Fritz. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1933. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Corporation, retiring in 1978 after 45 years of service.
On February 17, 1938 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Frances E. Holland, who preceded him in death on May 24, 2009.
He is survived by four daughters, Frances Cunningham of Warren, PA, Ann Wortman and her husband Gervase of Warren, PA, Laura Hunkele and her husband Edward of Elmira, NY, Jean Bacon and her husband Matthew of Fairview, PA; three sons, Bruce Fritz and his wife Nancy of Westport, CT, Colonel Gregory Fritz (Retired) of Woodbridge, VA, and Andrew Fritz and his wife Lisa of York, PA; 28 Grandchildren; and 38 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Captain David Fritz on July 8, 1975; three sisters, Olivia Fritz, Leona Ford, and Veronica DePanfilis; and seven brothers, Zeno Fritz, Oswald Fritz, Alto Fritz, Henry Fritz, Quintin Fritz and two brothers in infancy. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Fritz was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, the Quarter Century Club of the Stackpole Corporation, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and had served as mayor of St. Marys from 1981-1989.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, August 23, 2013, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
