Sophia G. Schmidt, 31, of 31 West Patrick Street, Frederick, MD, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, January 25, 2013 in Frederick, Maryland.
She was born February 27, 1981 in Madison, Wisc., daughter of Christian and Heidi Dorsey Schmidt, who survive of St. Marys. In 1990 the family moved to St. Marys and she was a graduate of Elk County Catholic High School, Class of 1999. She also graduated from Bucknell University in 2004 and received her Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2011. She was an employee of the Science Applications International Corporation.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Andriana Schmidt Sifuentes (Gabe) of Ocean Side, CA and Gisela Schmidt of New York City, NY; two brothers, Christian Schmidt (Alyssa) of Helena, MT and Nathan Schmidt (Dana) of Prague, Czech Republic; and nieces and nephews.
Sophia loved hiking, reading, traveling and being with her family. She was a member of her high school and college bands. She played soccer in high school and rugby as an adult.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
