Sophia E. “Betty” Kuntz

Sophia E. “Betty” Kuntz, 90, of 584 Church Street, St. Marys, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Newhaven Court in Greensburg, PA.

She was born August 23, 1923 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Nicholas and Irene Wilhelm Fritz.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1941.  She was a former employee of the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in St. Marys.

On July 3, 1948 in the Sacred Heart Church, she married John E. Kuntz who preceded her in death on May 30, 2008.

She is survived by two sons, David J. Kuntz of St. Marys and Timothy J. Kuntz and his wife Marybeth of Greensburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Gregory Dinio, Kathleen Dinio, Nicholas Dinio, Ryan Kuntz, Brendan Kuntz, John Connor Kuntz, and Audrie Marie Kuntz; and three great grandchildren, Cameron Kuntz, Elijah Kuntz, and Joshua Kuntz.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Susan Dinio and Justina Kuntz; a grandson Christopher Dinio; three sisters, Mary Louise Benninger, Ruth Wittman, and Irma Farrell; and two brothers, Ralph Fritz and Richard Fritz.  She was the last member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Kuntz was a member of the St. Mary’s Church and a former member of the Bell’s of St. Marys.  She enjoyed hiking, dancing, and was a clogger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 6:00 till 8:00 PM.
