Silvio D. Cortina

Silvio D. Cortina, 91, of 142 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at his home.

He was born January 15, 1926, in Byrnedale, son of the late Cesare and Cesarina Gavazzi Cortina. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Weedville Schools.  He was a retired employee of National Fuel Gas, retiring in 1988 after 31 years of service.

On August 24, 1957, in the Queen of the World Church, Silvio married Edith J. Marconi, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Kim Cortina and Sharon Moore and her husband Jeff, both of St. Marys; two sons, Michael Cortina and his wife Kathy and Raymond Cortina and his wife Aimee, both of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Alex Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Jake Cortina, Ben Cortina, and Anthony Cortina; two step grandchildren, Kyle Gaton and Kaitlin Gaton; a sister, Anna Cortina of Byrnedale; and by a brother, Victor Cortina of Byrnedale.

In addition to his parents, Silvio was preceded in death by two sisters, Albena Fantecci and Ida Coppezi; and by three brothers, Mario, Leo, and Robert Cortina.

Silvio was a member of the Queen of the World Church, where he served as a former usher for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army and Navy, having served in World War II.  Silvio enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and local sports fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Jeff Noble, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
