Siegfried J. “Sig” Engelberg

April 28, 2017 — February 8, 1940

Siegfried J. “Sig” Engelberg, 77, of 938 Fern Road, St. Marys, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born February 8, 1940, in Berern, Germany, son of the late Joseph and Anna Lemke Engelberg. He had been a resident of St. Marys since 1951 and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960.  He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Company.

On October 15, 1966, in the St. Mary’s Church, Sig married Nancy L. Distler, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary E. Mattivi and her husband Anthony of St. Marys and Amy M. Dietz and her husband Gary, Jr. of Corry, PA; and five grandchildren, Josh Dietz, Jonathan Dietz, Michael Dietz, Casey Mattivi, and Abby Mattivi.  Also surviving are two sisters, Hilda Walker and Gerda Squires, both of St. Marys; and by two brothers, Peter Engelberg and his wife Rita of St. Marys and Martin Engelberg and his wife Jody of Brockway.

Sig was a member of the Queen of the World Church and was a veteran of the US Army. He was also a member of the CMF, the Keystone Foremen’s Club, and was an avid fisherman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeff Noble, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801; the Community Nurses, Inc., Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA  15857; or to the Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA  15857.
