Robert J. Wonderly

Robert J. Wonderly, 77, of 101 North Mill Street, Ridgway, and formerly of Kersey, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Penn Highlands Elk.

He was born July 6, 1941, in Kersey, son of the late Irvin S. and Madeline C. Minnick Wonderly. Robert was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Kersey schools.  He was a retired employee of Alpine Pressed Metals in Ridgway and was a former employee of Elco Sintered Metals.

On July 7, 1979, in the Maria Lutheran Church, Robert married Rosalie A. Boroi, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Bobbie Jo Kronenwetter and her husband Jamie of Williamsport and Ann Pesce of St. Marys; a son, Bill Wonderly of Brandy Camp; a stepdaughter, Jean Harlan and her husband Michael of Ridgway; a stepson, Joseph Cavallett and his wife Martha of Kersey; Kelly Williams, who he mentored and was like a daughter to him; six grandchildren, Jen Cavallett, Melissa Lilja, Kayla Wildnauer, Kelsey Kronenwetter, Ashley Woods, and Michael Pesce; and by five great grandchildren, Madlyn, Masson, Olivia, Oliver, and Bohanna.  Also surviving are three sisters, Loretta McClintick and her husband Gary of Caledonia, Nellie McClintick of Caledonia, and Virginia Carpin of the Elk Haven Nursing Home; a brother, James Wonderly and his wife Kathryn of Weedville; two sisters-in-law, Betty Wonderly and Ruby Wonderly, both of Shelvey Summit; and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Claypool, Mary Lou Bennett, Margaret Woodring, and Betty Wonderly; and by two brothers, Joseph Wonderly and Irvin Wonderly, Jr.

Robert attended the Elk Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served during the Vietnam War. He was also a retired member of the Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department, becoming a member in 1976.  Robert enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, August 31, 2018, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Erik Hart officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
