Robert J. Foster, 69, of 124 Lafayette Street, St. Marys, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Penn Highlands Elk Hospital.
He was born February 15, 1945 in St. Marys, son of the late George J. and Helen Beimel Foster. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. He was formerly employed as a farmer, had worked for the Stackpole Carbon Company, and retired from Industrial Steel.
On February 14, 1970 in the St. Mary’s Church, he married Mary L. Simbeck, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Lisa Watson and her husband Michael of St. Marys and Barbara Foster and her longtime companion Alvin Hasselman of St. Marys; a grandson, Parker Watson; six sisters, Agnes Bouse of Johnsonburg, Margaret Foster of St. Marys, Helen Zurfluh of St. Marys, Betty Kuntz of St. Marys, Dolly Dornisch of St. Marys, and Grace Zuraski of Johnsonburg; and two brothers, Arthur Foster and his wife Martha of St. Marys and James Foster of St. Marys.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Foster in childhood; and three brothers, George Foster, Richard Foster, and Thomas Foster.
Mr. Foster was a member of the St. Mary’s Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and farm work, reading, and working with mechanical things.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Friday, March 21, 2014, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
