Richard L. Young

Richard L. Young, 87, a resident of Highland View Health Care, Brockway, and formerly of 1168 Windfall Road, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Highland View.

He was born June 29, 1926 in Huntington, WV, son of the late Charles and Lida Hall Young.  He was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University in Huntington, WV.  He had been a resident of St. Marys since 1966 and was a retired employee of Pure Carbon Company.

On December 13, 1958 in Huntington, WV, he married Geraldine P. Powell, who preceded him in death on July 9, 2013.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Cyphert and her husband Jack of Ridgway; a son, Marcus T. Young and his wife Estrellita of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Jesse Young, Weston Young, and triplets, David, Beth Ann, and Ryan Cyphert; and two brothers, Charles “Cy” Young of Huntington, WV and Robert “Bob” Young of Monticello, IN.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia “Pat” Young and Catherine “Kitty” Sea.

Mr. Young was a member of the St. Agnes Episcopal Church.  He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Navy, serving in the Pacific.  He served on the USS Cape Esperance (88) and the USS Bennington (20).  He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, a member of the George E. Wagner Masonic Lodge of St. Marys, and was a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason.  He was a past Shriner of the Jafa Mosque in Altoona and was a Grand Royal Patron of Pennsylvania for Order of the Amaranth.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

A Masonic Service will be held in the funeral home at 7:00 PM on Sunday evening followed by Funeral Services at 7:30 PM with the Rev. Mary Norton, Pastor of the St. Agnes Episcopal Church, officiating.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Committal Service to be held at the St. Marys Protestant Cemetery on Monday, October 21, 2013, at 11:00 AM.  Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the St. Agnes Episcopal Church Bible and Book Fund, 209 North St. Marys Street, St. Marys, PA  15857.
