Richard C. Lion

Richard “Dick” C. Lion, 80, of 144 Martin Road, St. Marys, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022, at his residence, with his family by his side.

He was born April 17, 1942, in St. Marys, son of the late Theodore and Kathryn DeHaas Lion.  Dick was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1960.  After obtaining his associate degree, Dick worked at Stackpole as a computer programmer and then at the local hospital.

On June 30, 1979, at Shiloh Presbyterian Church, Dick married Elizabeth “Liz” A. Swanson, who survives.

Along with his loving wife, he is survived by three daughters: Stephanie Lion of St. Marys, Rebecca Mitchell (Joshua) of Canonsburg, and Ashley Lion-Hnath of St. Marys; a son Christopher Lion of St. Marys; eight grandchildren: Kaitlynn Weidow, Emily Weidow, Rhett Winters, Allison Winters, Terra Hnath, C.J. Hnath, Jordan Mitchell, and Phoenix Mitchell; and by a brother David Lion (Kathy) of Glens Falls, NY.

Dick was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian, the Masonic Lodge for 45 years, and the Crystal Fire Department for 38 years.  He took great joy in numerous things especially fishing, golfing, model trains and watching football and NASCAR races.  With all of his interests, his family was most important to Dick.  He put them above anything else.  He will be missed.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, in St. Marys, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Scott Wiest, officiating.  Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Crystal Fire Department, 319 Erie Avenue, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to the Penn Highlands Community Nurses, 757 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.  The family of Richard Lion is grateful for the commitment of both of these organizations to our community.
