Richard N. Fleming, 86, of 838 South Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born August 31, 1925 in St. Marys, son of the late Robert and Theresa Hoffman Fleming. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Parochial Schools. He was a retired manager of the Charles P. Harvey Distributor, retiring in 1988 after 45 years of service.
On April 19, 1947 in the St. Mary’s Church, he married Alice M. Baumer who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Lois (Richard L.) Sadley and Mary (Douglas A.) Gerg, both of St. Marys; a son, Brian M. (Mary Pat) Fleming of St. Marys; six grandchildren, Angela (Ed) Long, Joseph (Kelly Jo) Sadley, Isaac Gerg, Ian Gerg, Alissa Fleming and Jessica Fleming; three great grandchildren, Cecilia Long, Maxwell Long and Anna Sadley; a sister, Janice Bulger of Erie; and a brother, Gary (Joann) Fleming of Cherryville, NC.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin daughters, Yvonne and Yvette Fleming, who died in infancy; and by a brother, Donald “Pepper” Fleming.
Mr. Fleming was a member of the Queen of the World Church, a Veteran of WWII having served in the Navy, a member of the American Legion, the U.S.S. LCI National Association Inc. and the BPOE Elks. He loved his home, sitting on his porch, planting his garden and his Sunday family dinners.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Wednesday, March
14, 2012 at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Full military rites will be
accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
