Ralph L. Samick, 86, of 523 N. St. Marys Road, Saint Marys, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at DuBois Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 1, 1931, in Saint Marys, son of the late Joseph and Colletta Hoffman Samick. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Saint Marys Central Catholic in 1950.
Ralph married Mary Ann Rezsutek in November 9, 1957 who survives. He is also survived by two sons: John “Jack” Samick and his wife, Louise of Saint Marys; and Jeffrey Samick of DuBois; three grandchildren, Samantha Samick, Nicole Garbic and her husband Josh, and Brian Samick; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Deacon, and Tucker Garbic.
He is also survived by three sisters: Agnes Shade and her husband, Paul of Saint Marys; Veronica Marshall and her husband, William of Saint Marys; and Theresa Murphy and her husband, William of Philadelphia; two brothers: Joseph Samick of Saint Marys; and Francis Samick and his wife, Sue of Fairport, NY.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Logue.
Ralph was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company after 43 years of service. He is also a decorated veteran of the United States Army and the Korean War receiving two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Ralph was a member of Saint Marys Church and the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph L. Samick will be celebrated in the Saint Marys Church on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 11:30AM, with a concelebrated mass with Rev. Steve Collins, Rev. Matt Quimno, and Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, Pastor officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Saint Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Committal will follow in the Saint Marys Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home in Saint Marys on Saturday, January 20 from 10:00-11:00AM. Memorials, if desired, can be made to a favorite charity.
