Norbert Wade Geer

April 19, 2019 — July 3, 1924

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, poppa, uncle, and friend, Norbert Wade Geer.  Norbert, 94, formerly of 178 Seneca Road, St. Marys, and recently of Silver Creek Terrace, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born July 3, 1924, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Wade Harrison Geer and Julia Shannon Geer.  Norbert married Cecilia Mary Auman on September 8, 1947, in the St. Mary’s Church.  She preceded him in death on February 16, 2002.

Norbert was a World War II veteran, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the European Theater.  He was a proud member of the Mayflower Society as a descendent of Stephen Hopkins and very proud of his Irish/English heritage.  Norbert was also a member of the St. Mary’s Church.

Surviving is one son, Wade Edward Geer of Boca Raton, FL; three daughters, Cynthia Lasko and her husband Andrew of Chardon, OH, Lorelei Newell and her husband Larry of St. Marys, and Meredith Dailey and her husband Michael of Cranberry Township.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Joshua Trentine, Trevor Trentine, Tara Trentine, Matthew Newell (Jackie), Bethany Zipf (Andrew), Mallory Dailey, and Sean Dailey (fiancée Laura Mohney); along with two great granddaughters, Harper Zipf and Graysen Zipf; step-grandchildren, Heidi Harper and Heather Ferns; and step-great grandchildren, Ava and Reese Harper and Cameron Ferns.  Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Rose Geer, Doris Geer, and Helen Parana; and many nieces and nephews, especially those close to him, Val Sutka, Mary Gore, Leslie Meyer, and Jama Rezmerski.

Besides his wife and parents, Norbert was preceded in death by two sisters, Eileen Crowe and Genevieve Sutka; and by two brothers, John R. (Jack) Geer and Loren James Geer.  He was the last member of his immediate family.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 1:30 PM, with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

He was and always will be the best “Poppa” in the world.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Silver Creek Terrace, 791 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA  15857.
