Norbert F. Frey, 95, of 190 Horseshoe Drive, St. Marys, passed into the Lord’s embrace peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, surrounded by family and loved ones, after a brief illness.
He was born March 28, 1921, in St. Marys, son of the late Charles and Emma Anzinger Frey. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1941. Lovingly referred to as Norb or Papa Frey, he retired from Airco Speer in 1982 as a foreman in the brush department.
On May 27, 1943, in Spangler, PA, he married Ella E. Slusser, who preceded him in death on November 28, 1999.
Norb is survived by two daughters, Maura Frey of Byrnedale and Kell Ogletree and her husband James of St. Marys; four sons, Kurt Frey and his wife Connie of Kersey, Chad Frey of North Dakota, Ives Frey and his wife Nancy of St. Marys; and Sean Frey of St. Marys; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter; two sisters, Helen Luchini of Kersey and Bernice Bauer and her husband Pete of St. Marys; and a brother Maurice Frey and his wife Ann of St. Marys.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nils Frey; two grandchildren, Simon Frey and Aubrey Sapielak; a great grandson, James McQuade; a sister, Ruth Scolari; and by three brothers, Robert Farley and twins, Roman and Norman Frey.
Norb farmed his land since 1958, was an avid horseshoe pitcher, and as a young man was active in area bands, playing the French Horn. He was a beautiful child of God, beloved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Norb was a member of the St. Mary’s Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
