Michael A. Dolan

Michael A. Dolan, 85, of 419 N. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at his residence.

He was born September 30, 1936 in St. Marys, son of the late Michael and Ethel Herzing Dolan. Mike was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a graduate of Cameron County High School, Class of 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Navy stationed on the USS Antietam. Following his discharge, he continued his education at Mansfield State College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later earned his Master’s Degree in Education from St. Bonaventure University. He impacted thousands of students during his teaching career at the St. Marys Area Middle School and was affectionately known as “Mr. D” by his students. He also coached the St. Marys Varsity softball team, coaching three of his daughters and sharing his love of the game. He taught in St Marys from 1966 until his retirement in 1996.

On September 5, 1964, in Holy Rosary Church, Mike married Joyce K. Murphy, who preceded him in death on May 8, 2017.

He is survived by five daughters: Kathleen Dolan of Ellicott City, MD, Sherry Hasselman (Alan) of St. Marys, Lori Emmert (Rick) of St. Marys, Robbyn Schloder (Dave) of St. Marys, and Marcy Delaney (Matt) of Lutz, FL; by his son, Michael J. Dolan (Christine) of Warren; by 13 grandchildren, Olivia Poirier, Eliana Poirier, Abby Hasselman, Sarah Hasselman, Kiri Emmert, Kenna Emmert, Megan Emmert, Tyler Wehler, Alec Wehler, Paige Delaney, Grace Delaney, Lauren Dolan, and Michaela Dolan; his sister, Mary O’ Keefe of Chesapeake, VA; and by his nieces and nephews.

Mike was a member of the St. Marys American Legion Post 103. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed baseball, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was the biggest fan of his children and grandchildren and supported them in all their activities. He attended hundreds of their sporting events and his reassuring presence on the sidelines will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He was genuine and funny, quietly dependable and put his family above all else.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 10:00AM, with the Rev. Kevin Holland, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.
