Martha C. Pistner

Martha C. Pistner, 95, of 813 South St. Marys Street, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born December 13, 1922, in St. Marys, daughter of the late August and Magdalena Hoffman Werneth. Martha was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools.  She was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Corporation and was a co-owner and founding member of the St. Marys Box Company.

On February 23, 1949, at the Sacred Heart Church in Tucson, Ariz., Martha married George J. Pistner, who preceded her in death on June 1, 2015. They were married for 66 years.

Mrs. Pistner was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed playing cards and taking trips to the casino with her husband.  She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and liked watching and attending games.  Martha had an unselfish love for her family, especially her grandchildren with whom she shared a special bond.  She will be missed for the love and support she brought to those around her and her many home-cooked meals.

She is survived by three sons, George J. Pistner and his wife Sue Ann (Dunn), Donald W. Pistner and his wife Anne (Sorg), and Dennis H. Pistner, all of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Matthew G. Pistner, Megan M. Manning, Katherine R. “Katie” Pistner, Karen P. Geist, and Michelle A. Pistner; six great grandchildren, Adam Pistner, Elizabeth Pistner, Benjamin Manning, Lauren Manning, Alana Pistner, and Eli Geist; and by a sister, Margaret Floravit of St. Marys.

In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by two sisters, Magdalena Amacher and Mary Herzing; and by two brothers, Clarence and August Werneth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, August 31, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
