Marie J. Pontzer, 81, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of 238 Fairview Road, Kersey, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born October 6, 1933 in St. Marys, daughter of the late James and Assunta Scarnati Carino. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1953. She was a retired cook at the St. Marys Area High School, retiring in 1999 after 28 years of service.
On September 1, 1956 in the Queen of the World Church, she married Mark P. Pontzer, who preceded her in death on October 18, 2005.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Quinn and her husband Michael of Erie and Melissa Pontzer and her fiancé Paul Powell of Binghamton, NY; two sons, Douglas M. Pontzer and his wife Lynne of Erie and Michael J. Pontzer of Kersey; four grandchildren, Kathryn Pontzer, Jacob Pontzer, Mary Quinn, and Molly Quinn; a step grandson, Michael Mello; a step great granddaughter, Miranda Mello; three sisters-in-law, Sally Carino of St. Marys, Zita Carino of St. Marys, and Joan Lundin and her husband Don of Kersey; a brother-in-law, Pierre Pontzer of Kersey; and by several nieces and nephews, especially Jill of Kersey. She is also survived by her best friend, Doris Curci of St. Marys.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Carino and Cecelia Haser; and two brothers, Frank Carino and William Carino. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Pontzer was a member of the St. Boniface Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She enjoyed her time at Silver Creek Terrace, where she made many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
