Louis Chiappelli, Iii

November 14, 1957 — June 23, 2025

Louis Chiappelli III, 67, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, June 23, 2025, at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh.

He was born on November 14, 1957, in St. Marys, the son of the late Louis “Manny” and Alberta Caskey Chiappelli.  Lou was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1975.  As a youth, Lou could often be found playing golf and caddying at the St. Marys Country Club, where he developed his lifelong passion for the game.  As an adult he worked at Carbon Graphite and later for SMP Home Medical, where he retired.

On July 18, 1987, in St. Marys, Lou married Paula (Straub) Chiappelli, who survives. They were blessed to share over 37 wonderful years of marriage together.

In addition to his loving wife, Lou is survived by his two sons, Louie Chiappelli IV (Molly) of St. Marys and Tony Chiappelli (Abby) of Gibsonia; and two grandchildren, Vera and Louie V. He is also survived by four sisters: Diane Gillen (David) of Kersey, Lou Ann Lecker (David) of St. Marys, Joann Hetrick (David) of St. Marys, and MaryAnn Feldbauer (David) of St. Marys; his in-laws from the Straub family: Frank and Cheryl Straub, Pat and Susy Straub, and Rosanne Hannon (Straub) of Butler; along with their families as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Aileen Wilson; two brothers in infancy, Jeffrey Allen Chiappelli and Joseph John Chiappelli; his brothers-in-law, Donald “Buzzy” Gustafson and James Hannon.

Lou was very passionate about his golf game and was an avid player in the Friday night league at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.  He especially cherished his time at camp, where he enjoyed cutting firewood, going for rhino rides, and listening to music around the fire surrounded by family and friends. He always looked forward to his time away during hunting season.  He also loved going to Canada on fishing trips and enjoyed shooting trap.  Lou had a great sense of humor and could always be counted on to share a good story or quick-witted remark to bring a smile to those around him.  Bang! His kind heart, dedication to his loved ones, and his ability to make people laugh will be deeply missed.

Friends and family will be received at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857, on Sunday June 29, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
