Lora R. VanSlander, 63, of 1189 East Eschbach Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Penn Highlands DuBois after a lengthy illness.
She was born December 30, 1951 in San Bernardino, CA, daughter of the late Duane Huff and Betty Reed Huff Conner, who survives of Caledonia. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Nogales Schools in California. She was a retired employee of Metco Industries.
On December 20, 2002 in St. Marys, she married Thomas A. VanSlander, who survives. She is also survived by three daughters, Stephanie Brown and her husband Donald of Penfield, Sandie Gardner and her husband Andy of Weedville, and Wendi Clark of Kersey; a son, Richard D. McCracken and his wife Sheila of Brisbin, PA; a step daughter, Denise Beimel and her husband Rick of Kersey; a step son, Timothy VanSlander and his wife Missie of St. Marys; four granddaughters; five grandsons; one great granddaughter; and two sisters, Beverly Huff of Altoona and Janet Satterlee and her husband Dan of Sykesville.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Wheeler.
Lora enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, January 23, 2015, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
