Leo F. Greenthaner, 88, a resident of the Silver Creek Terrace, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, January 6, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born December 20, 1923 in Cadogan, PA, son of the late Fred and Mary Kurzinger Greenthaner. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended New Bethlehem Schools. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Corp., retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service.
On September 11, 1958 in Emporium, he married Alice Louise McMaster, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2010.
He is survived by two daughters, Darlene Distler (Steve) of St. Marys, Tracy Fritz (Steve) of St. Marys; two sons, Michael Greenthaner (Barbara) of St. Marys, Rodney Greenthaner (Julie) of St. Marys; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one brother, Bernard Greenthaner of St. Marys.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Greenthaner; three sisters, Anastasia Fair, Cecelia Dorchack, Adeline Wilhelm; and two brothers, Raymond and Arthur Greenthaner.
Mr. Greenthaner was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, was a K of C 4th Degree, a member of the Quarter Century Club of the Stackpole Carbon Corp., and was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Army.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
