Lars Oskar Troberg, 89, of 645 Sherry Road, St. Marys, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at his residence.
He was born November 16, 1922 on the Aland Island in Sweden, son of the late Karl and Augusta Johanna Helin Troberg. He attended schools in Aland and in Turka, Finland. In 1945, he graduated with a B.S. degree in chemistry from the Technical College in Helsinki, Finland. He studied at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ and at Columbia University in New York City, NY. He graduated with an M.S. degree in Metallurgy from Stevens. He was employed by Cherichton-Vulkar in Turka, Finland, Hoganar Corporation in Hogan, Sweden and Keystone Carbon Company in St. Marys from which he retired in 1986 after 32 years of service. He was primarily involved in powder metallurgy research development and after retiring he did consulting work.
On January 14, 1953, in Helsinki, Finland, he married Beverly JoAnn Hoffman from Delmar, Delaware, who survives. Also surviving are his Godchildren, Klas Eklund and Christian (Nancy) Widen; and his cousins, Holgar Erikson, Suzane Eklund and Gustaf Widen.
In high school he played soccer and later tennis followed by golf in St. Marys. He started to travel at a young age with his mother and father and later with his wife, JoAnn. JoAnn and he had lived mainly in North America and visited most countries in Europe. After retirement, they spent the summer in their home on the Aland Island. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and after retirement, cooking.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Erik Hart officiating.
