Larry E. Whiteman, Jr., 88, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025 peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness.
Larry was born November 19, 1936 in St. Marys, son of the late L.E. Whiteman, Sr. and Winifred Hartman Whiteman.
On June 28, 1958, in Queen of the World Church, he married Sara Burden Whiteman, who survives. Together they shared 67 years of love, laughter, and marriage.
Larry was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a member of Sacred Heart Church. He graduated from St. Marys Area High School in 1954. He then went on to Penn State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Metalurgical Engineering. Upon graduation he went to work at Stackpole Corporation in 1958 as a metallurgical engineer. He later moved into supervision and became VP of Manufacturing. In 1989, along with his brother Harry Whiteman, John Bauer, and Ed Crowe, they started Contact Technologies, Inc., where he served as President until 2008. Larry served on numerous boards such as Boy and Girls Club, St. Marys Knothole Association, Stackpole Hall Foundation and the Elk County Community Foundation, where he was a member of the Legacy Society.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his camp, wintering in Florida, and spending as much time as possible with his boys, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He mostly enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Sara.
In addition to his wife Sara of 67 years, Larry is survived by two sons: Mike (Leah) Whiteman and Mark (Vicki) Whiteman, both of St. Marys; five grandchildren: David (Mia), Devin (Miranda), Alison (Kevin) Werneth, Jake, and Sara; four great-grandchildren: Lucas, Alexandria, Maeve Whiteman, and Leila Werneth; one brother, Harry (Peggy) Whiteman; sister-in-law, Mary (Gray) Simons and brother-in-law, Wray (Patty) Burden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Larry E. Whiteman, III, in 2010.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Larry E. Whiteman, Jr. will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church Monday, September 8, 2025 at 12:00PM, with Rev. Michael Gabler, O.S.B. celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in the Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 from 10:45AM until 11:45AM on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elk County Community Foundation, 32 South St. Marys Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 for the L.E. Whiteman Family Memorial Fund.
