Julian F. "Bud" Asti

Julian F. “Bud” Asti, 82, of 120 Edward Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Elk Haven Nursing Home. 

Bud was born at home in Johnsonburg on July 27, 1942.  He was the son of the late Anthony “Tony” and Mildred Aiello Asti.  He was a lifelong resident of the area, attended Johnsonburg schools.  Following high school, Bud started working at Pure Carbon until he furthered his education at the Educational Institute of Pittsburgh, where he earned his diploma in Design and Engineering Drafting.  After earning his diploma, he started his career with Airco Carbon.   With the closing of Airco he worked in powdered metal manufacturing until 2000 when Bud and his nephew, David Croyle, started, Ricochet Xpress Expedite Service. He retired from Ricochet in 2015.

On June 13, 1970, in Queen of the World Church, Bud married Rita L. Straub, who survives.  They were blessed to share fifty-four years of marriage. 

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by three daughters: Julie Ginther (Aaron) of St. Marys, Mary Anderson (Craig) of St. Marys, and Bridget Forster (Jason) of Weedville; seven grandchildren: Amelia and Alicia Ginther, Elizabeth and David Anderson, and Patrick, Lilah, and Haley Forster; a nephew that was like a brother, Dennis “Denny” Asti of Johnsonburg; sisters-in-law: Patricia Brock, Carlene Koch, Mary Bea Maloney (Dutch), all of St. Marys and Sandy Asti of Ridgway; many nieces and nephews; and the compassionate and caring staff at Elk Haven Nursing Home. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters: Theresa Croyle, Evelyn Danner, Frances “Franny” Mecca, Mildred “Nan” Salter, Dorothy Lindenmuth, Lucille “Lou” Haight, and Delores “Dee” Fulton; and two brothers: Frank “Galie” and Anthony “Butch” Asti.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 

Bud was veteran of the United States Army Reserve from 1964 until 1970.  He was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and School where he was instrumental in the Shape program and volunteered in a variety of ways including Bingo.   Bud enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, sporting events and concerts.  Bud looked forward to Sunday family gatherings, picnics, and football.    

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 1:00PM with Rev. Herald Brock, celebrating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. 

Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.
