Jonathan Lee McCandless, 44, of 336 Main Street, Kersey, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at his residence, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born June 20, 1973, in Ridgway, son of the late James W. McCandless and Debra Stahli McCandless, who survives of Dagus Mines. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. Prior to his illness, he worked for Advanced Disposal at the Green Tree Landfill.
On October 21, 1995, in the St. Boniface Church, he married Irene Courson, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Ashley N. McCandless of Ridgway and Katlyn M. McCandless of Kersey; three grandchildren, Alexis McCandless, Julianne Samick, and Blake Samick; a sister, Jolene McCandless of Kersey; three brothers, James McCandless and his wife Judy of Auburn, NY, Jason McCandless of Kersey and Jesse McCandless of St Marys; and by aunts and uncles.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph D. McCandless; his paternal grandparents, William and Nora Baum McCandless; his maternal grandparents, Harold & Mary Stalhi; his sister-in-law, Michelle Beimel; and his brother-in-law, David Beimel.
Jonathan enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to the casino. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and he loved his grandchildren, spending time with them and his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Boniface Church on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, July 30, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
