John E. Weidow

May 25, 1945 — Jun 28, 2026

John E. Weidow, 81, of 1784 Bucktail Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Penn Highlands Elk.

He was born May 25, 1945, in St. Marys, son of the late James and Helen Henry Weidow.  He was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a member of the first graduating class at Elk County Christian High School, Class of 1963.  John worked in sales for Airco Speer, retiring after 45 years with the company.

On June 18, 1966, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, John married Joanne Vollmer who survives.  They were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary together.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children: John Weidow (Lori) of Treasure Lake, Christine Weidow of St. Marys, and Scott Weidow (Charlotte) of St. Marys; five grandchildren: Alyssa, Samantha (Bubba), Courtney (Michael), Dylan, and Hailey; two great-grandchildren: Beau and Arielle: two brothers: Kenny Weidow (Kit) of St. Marys and Mike Weidow (Chris) of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.  His love for the outdoors never faded, and he especially cherished the companionship of his horses.  They were more than animals to him—they were trusted partners and a source of pride and happiness throughout his life.

One of John’s greatest accomplishments was his dedication to the Boy Scouts and starting the first handicapped Boy Scout Troop 199.  As Scout Master for Cub Scout Pack 97 and 99, he helped shape the lives of countless young people, teaching them the values of responsibility, service, perseverance, and respect for nature. He believed in leading by example and took great pride in watching generations of Scouts grow into capable and compassionate adults.

John was a man of deep faith.  His trust in God provided strength through every chapter of life and served as the foundation for the values he passed on to his family.  He lived with humility, generosity, and a servant's heart, leaving a lasting legacy of love, faith, and steadfast character.
