John A. Schwabenbauer, 93, a resident of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, and formerly of 615 Sherry Road, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
He was born October 31, 1918 in St. Marys, son of the late Walter H. and Gertrude C. Wickett. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Public High School, Class of 1935. He was a retired employee of Keller Oil, retiring in 1984 after 43 years of service.
On May 22, 1946, in the St. Boniface Church in Kersey, he married Adeline D. Mosier, who preceded him in death on October 13, 2010.
He is survived by a son, John C. “Jack” Schwabenbauer and his wife Sandra of Altoona; four grand-children, Lori Provost, Adam Schwabenbauer, Bradley Pike and Andrea Hamel; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Schwabenbauer of St. Marys and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Karl T. Schwabenbauer, who passed away September 23, 1988; two sisters,
Marion Lenze and Mabel Grotzinger; and four brothers, Walter, William, Thomas and Donald R. Schwabenbauer.
Mr. Schwabenbauer was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corp., and was a member of the K of C, AARP and the American Legion. He loved gardening, playing Scrabble and taking care of his birds.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson OSB officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
