John R. Dowie, 66, of 133 Fairview Road, Kersey, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born June 23, 1947 in St. Marys, son of the late Robert G. and Leah M. Spuller Dowie. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Public High School, Class of 1965. He was a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, retiring in 2003 after 34 years of service.
He was married to Norma Miles Dowie, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Stephanie Wykoff and her husband Rick of St. Marys; two sons, Robert Dowie and his fiancé Lori Smith of Kersey and David Dowie and his wife Shasta of Kersey; four grandchildren, Leelynn Dowie, Marissa Smith, Chrissy Smith, and Christopher Rumsey; two sisters, Mary Dowie of Kersey and Leah Sain and her husband Donald of St. Marys; and by nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sons, John Jr. and Jeffrey Allen Dowie, who passed away at birth.
Mr. Dowie was a member of the St. Boniface Church. He was a member of the Fox Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, Ducks Unlimited, the Audubon Society, and the NRA. He was a former treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 94 and was a former member of the Dagus Mines American Legion and the Fox Twp. Sportsmen’s Club. He loved to hunt, trap, and fish, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and at Green’s farm.
Due to the renovation of the St. Boniface Church, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. James Faluszczak officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, September 27, 2013, from 5:00 till 8:00 PM.
