After a well-lived life of 81 years, John L. Boland passed away peacefully at ManorCare Health Services in Whitehall (Pittsburgh, PA) on Monday, October 22, 2018.
He is survived by his loving sons, Robert (Kelleigh) Boland, Daniel (Kyrie) Boland, and Michael Boland, all of Pittsburgh; and was “Grandpa” to five grandchildren, Taylor, Phillip, Connor, Cassie and Iliana Boland. John was also a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews and is survived by his sister, Marilyn Kellman (Virginia); his in-laws, Dennis and Patty Stauffer of St. Marys; his mother-in-law, Mary Jean Stauffer of St. Marys; and a sister-in-law, Helen Boland of Ohio.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 29 years, Mary Kaye Boland, who passed in 2001; his sister, Shirley Jones of Florida; his brother, Ron Boland of Ohio; and brother-in-law, Rich Kellman.
John was born and raised in St. Marys and was one of three children born to James and Margaret Boland. He worked as a press operator for Powdered Metal Products for 40 years. John enjoyed hunting, listening to polka music, watching Elk County Catholic High School basketball games and cheering on the team. He was also a huge Pittsburgh sports fan, particularly of the Steelers, and was always wearing a team hat. He never missed watching a game, and often called his sons to discuss the plays.
Later in life, John enjoyed spending time with his companion, Norma Fields who predeceased him. He was always willing to help anyone in need and would often drive his cousin, Yolanda Jeselnick, to various appointments and commitments when she could no longer drive.
John’s kind personality, wonderful sense of humor, giving nature, and joy for life will be celebrated at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation with John’s family will be at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
