Jimmie Lamont Dowie, 68, of 13019 River Road, (Hallton) Sigel, PA, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Little Jimmie passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after his battle with cancer.
He was born December 24, 1946, in Ridgway, son of the late Jim L. and Martha Jane Heigel Dowie, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1964. He was a retired supervisor for the Pennsylvania Game Commission Food and Cover Corp, retiring in 1999.
He is survived by Marguerite Garbarino, whom he had been married to for 22 years, and on July 11, 1997, he began his life for the past 18 years with his loving companion, Jeanne Thompson Sheeley, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Katie Dowie (Blake J. Haberberger, Jr.) of St. Marys; a son, Jamie W. Dowie (Kathy) of Kersey; a grandson, Will Haberberger; a sister, Donna Harvey (Robert) of Kersey; and Jeanne’s children, Stephen Sheeley (Debbie), Michael Sheeley, Cynthia Skrzypek (Gordon), Patrick Sheeley (Michele), Shawn Sheeley, and Matthew Sheeley (Alicia), all of Kersey.
Jimmie was a member of the Maria Lutheran Church. He enlisted in the Marines and served in the Vietnam War and was recipient of the Purple Heart. He served in the St. Marys Army Reserve Unit and then served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard until 1998. He was a life member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW, a member of the NRA, the National and Pennsylvania Trappers Associations, the Fur Takers of America, and was a leader of the Junior Conservation Corp in Fox Township. Jimmie was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman.
Funeral services will be held in the Maria Lutheran Church in Dagus Mines on Monday, August 10, 2015, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Hart, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, and on Monday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 AM.
