Jerry F. Zimmerman, Sr., 75, of 142 Laurel Lane, Kersey, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born March 1, 1940, in Hallton, son of the late George and Geraldine Dobson Zimmerman. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1959. Jerry served as Class President all four years of high school. He was a retired employee of Carbon Graphite, retiring in 2000, with 32 years of service.
On December 26, 1959, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Maryann Keller, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Jerry F. Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife Cathy of Kersey, and Shawn Zimmerman and his wife Amy of Kersey; and four granddaughters, Stephanie Zimmerman, Samantha Zimmerman, Aubrie Shrubb, and Alyssa Shrubb.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Zimmerman; a sister, Sharon Jerko; and four brothers, William “Paul” Zimmerman, Robert Zimmerman, Emerson Zimmerman, and his twin brother, James Zimmerman, who died in infancy. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Jerry was a member of the St. Boniface Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Dagus Mines American Legion, the Ridgway Elks, the Ridgway VFW, and the St. Marys Moose. He loved going to camp, hunting, and especially spending time with his granddaughters.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held in the St. Boniface Church on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Twp. Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
