James E. Weichman, 83, of 310 Spruce Street, St. Marys, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Thursday, January 15, 2026.
He was born June 6, 1942, in St. Marys, son of the late Francis J. and Frances “Mabel” Fritz Weichman. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960 and following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After serving in the Air Force for twenty years, Jim returned to St. Marys where he worked at Airco Speer, Windfall Products, and JIT Tool and Die, where he finally hung up his hat for the third time.
On February 1, 1964, in Queen of the World Church, James married the late Patricia Thorwart, who preceded him in death on January 21, 2022. Jim was a devoted husband and dedicated himself to caring for Patty following her stroke in 2005. The family finds comfort in knowing they have been reunited.
Jim is survived by two daughters: Hope Weichman and Erica Bauer (Daryl), both of St. Marys; a son, Dean Weichman of Emporium; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Hritz, Jonathan Hritz (Tisha), Marlee Winslow, Daulton Bauer, Payton Bauer, Ray Berry (Brooke), Kiersten Fox, and Adam Weichman; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Lois Alphonso of St. Marys, and Amy Freed (Alan) of Ambridge.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter-in-law, Kelley Hritz, and a sister, Judy Davis.
Jim was a man of many interests and a committed member of his community. He was committed to the Elk County Civil Air Patrol and took great pride in being a role model to the cadets, watching them grow and gain confidence as young adults. He was a model train enthusiast. Over the past couple of years, he picked up that passion again, having hopes of building another remarkable railroad display. He was an avid fisherman, coin collector, bowler, and also enjoyed the game of poker. Even during his final weeks, he managed to play poker with his family that he loved deeply.
Jim was the heart of the family. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he offered unwavering support, gentle guidance, and a steady presence that made life’s challenges easier to face. He would spend countless hours sitting on his front porch with his beloved wife, Patty, waiving to folks driving by, talking to people as they walked by, and giving treats to all the dogs. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion, Moose Club, CMF, and PFL. He also took great pride as member of the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 10:00AM. Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
