James D. Kerner

April 30, 1932 — June 11, 2022

James D. Kerner, 90, of 619 Pontzer Avenue, St. Marys, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

On April 30, 1932, in Brookville, PA, he was born to the late Clarence and Monica Tierney Kerner.  Jim attended St. Marys parochial schools, Central Catholic High School, and graduated from St. Vincent Preparatory School in Latrobe.  He was a former employee of National Molded Products and retired from Windfall Products in 2000.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On July 9, 1977, in St. Marys, Jim married Connie King Bauer, who survives.

Along with his loving wife, he is survived by four daughters: Nancy Fassnacht (Michael) of Reynoldsville, Sueann Gulvas (Edward) of DuBois, Darlene Erich (Peter Iccabazzi) of Utah, and Kelley Mohney (Mark) of St. Marys; four sons: James Kerner (Chris) of Ohio, Thomas Kerner (Lisa) of Ohio, Michael Kerner (Kim) of Ohio, and Butch Bauer (Allison) of Kersey; eighteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; by two nieces and two nephews; and  Annette Beadnell, whom he loved like a daughter.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chelsea Kerner and two sisters, Joann Meier and Judith Chase.

Jim was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, American Legion Post 103, Moose Lodge, and the PFL.  He taught all his children how to express love for their families as he was never afraid to say “I love you” or cry.  He never shied away from hard work and taught his family great work ethic.  He was a man of tremendous faith, he loved telling jokes, country music shows, bowling, Lone Ranger, mincemeat pies, spaghetti, Wendy’s chocolate frosty’s, and a few Straub Greenies back in the day. Most of all he loved his family, well maybe the Steelers, Penguins and Dodgers just as much! Above all else, he loved his family tremendously and will be sorely missed. We all know that you will be standing with Jesus to bring us all home one day.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Curry, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA  15857 or Seton Hill University, Alumni Relations Office, 1 Seton Hill Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601 or online at https://shualumni.setonhill.edu
