James R. Ackley, 81, of 125 Fairview Road, Kersey, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at his residence, after a brief illness.
He was born April 10, 1940, in St. Marys, son of the late Robert C. and Antoinette Sweener Ackley. James was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School. He was a retired employee of Carbon City Products.
On May 7, 1959, in the St. Mary’s Church, James married Rosemary Miles, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters: Cynthia A. Herzing (Jeff) of St. Marys, Brenda L. Mohney (Tim) of St. Marys, and Annette M. Meyer (Ron) of St. Marys; by three sons: Stephen J. Ackley (Lisa) of Laurinburg, NC, Ronald E. Ackley (Dawn Cheatle) of Kersey, and Martin P. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters: Rita Stauffer and Shirley Carnovale; and by his brother: Robert Ackley. He was the last member of his immediate family.
James enjoyed his time outdoors especially when he was camping or fly fishing. He was a good gardener, enjoyed playing the organ, and loved traveling with his wife. Helping others meant a great deal to James. His commitment to donating his blood so that others might benefit was very important to him. However, nothing was more important to James than his wife, his children, and their families.
