Irma M. Schatz, 91, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Elk Towers and South Michael Road, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at Elk Haven after a brief illness.
She was born September 22, 1924, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Jost and Anna Caskey Wehler. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. She was a former employee of the Keystone Carbon Company and was a retired employee of the G. C. Murphy Company.
On June 14, 1941, in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Michael W. Schatz, who preceded her in death on March 19, 2001.
Irma is survived by a son, James M. Schatz and his wife Bernadette of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Jennifer Brooks, Natalie Divaney, Michael Schatz, and Cameron Schatz; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Velma O’Dell of St. Marys, Corda Gray of Mt. Zion, and Verna Pelleschi and her husband Bruno of St. Marys; and two brothers, Ivan Wehler and his wife Dorothy of St. Marys and Luke Wehler and his wife Catherine of St. Marys.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Wurm; and two brothers, James Wehler and Linus Wehler.
Irma was a member of the St. Mary’s Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday morning from 10:30 until 11:30 AM.
