Inez M. Kneidel, 98, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 437 South St. Marys Street, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Elk Haven after a lengthy illness.
She was born January 22, 1916 in Vigo Cavedine, Austria, daughter of the late Joseph E. and Angeline Berti Zamboldi. She was a graduate of New Bethlehem High School, Class of 1935 and became a resident of St. Marys in 1937. She was a retired co-owner of the former Family Market in St. Marys from 1954 until 1987.
On July 15, 1939 in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Charles W. “Buck” Kneidel, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Irene Kneidel-Mery and her husband Paul of Boerne, TX and Sally Geer and her husband Edward of South Williamsport, PA; a son, Dr. Thomas W. Kneidel and his wife Rosemary of Wichita, KS; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie, Timothy, Andrea, Matthew, Gregory, Joseph, Christopher, Michael, Andrew, Alan, and Gretchen; and 24 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Rex Zamboldi, Aldo Zamboldi, and George Zamboldi. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Kneidel was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and was an avid bowler. She was a member of the St. Marys Country Club for many years and was known for her championship golfing, winning the Women’s Championship 19 times.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, October 31, 2014, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, October 30, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
