Harriet June Moyer passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026 at the age of 90, with her three children by her side.
Harriet's love of place ran so deep it defined her. She loved the rivers and hills of central and western Pennsylvania with an intensity that shaped nearly every choice she made — she lived her entire life in Fox Township and never once considered being anywhere else. For 44 years, she was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, eventually serving on its advisory board, and she spent decades tending a garden and property where she personally planted dozens of trees, many of which now stand taller than the house. She found peace and meaning in the act of putting down roots, quite literally, and in watching things grow slowly and permanently in one place.
Harriet met Jack when she was seven years old, ice skating on the pond in her backyard. It would be more than a decade before their friendship became something else — they began dating at nineteen — but from that point on, the two were inseparable. They married and spent the whole of their lives together, until Jack's passing several years ago. Theirs was a partnership that started in childhood and never really had a beginning, in the way that the deepest loves don't.
For over thirty years, Harriet worked for the local school district, serving as Chief of Staff to the Superintendent — trusted with everything from board matters to the superintendent's own schedule and judgment calls, a role she made entirely her own.
Coupled with Harriet's strong sense of place, she also found joy collecting antiques and books along with more than a few unusual collections, including compacts, glassware and perhaps most surprisingly - bricks.
Harriet loved to walk through her hometown or along the banks of a river while her husband fly-fished. On these walks and hikes she might collect a rock, a flower, a piece of a fallen tree as tokens to remind her of the natural beauty around her. A trait she passed on to her children.
Harriet is survived by her children, Craig, Vaughn, and Kay Jean (partner Gina Hoxie), her two grandchildren, Jackson and Tucker Wright – Kay Jean’s and Christina Wright’s children and Harriet’s two sisters, Kay (Jake Stieger) and Jean Cockrell.
A funeral service for Harriet will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 on July 24, 2026 at 11:00AM. A reception will follow at noon at the Dream View Event Center (formerly the St. Marys Country Club) 535 S. Michael Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.
