Gloria Gibson, 74, of St. Marys, Pennsylvania, formerly from Youngstown, Ohio, passed away, surrounded by her children on July 2, 2026 following a battle with Neuroendocrine Carcinoma.
Gloria was born on January 28, 1952 in Sharon, PA, the daughter of Elias and Rose (Bartos) Bossick.
Gloria married the late William Gibson on August 20, 1977 in Youngstown, Ohio, who preceded her in death on July 28, 2025. The couple was married almost 48 years and together had four children. Their son, Michael (Sandra) Gibson of Pittsburgh, PA, and daughters, Valerie (Daniel) Nedimyer of St. Marys, PA, Mandi (Craig) Goodwill of Erie, PA, and Lydia (Will) Gibson of Pittsburgh, PA. Eight grandchildren, her greatest source of pride. Elias, Jacob and Madelyn Nedimyer of St. Marys, Rook and Eleanor Gibson of Pittsburgh, PA and Chase, Vivian and Anna Goodwill of Erie, PA, and her bonus grandson, John. She is also survived by her sister Patty Golub of Brookfield, Ohio, and two brothers, Dean Bossick of Mercer, PA and Kenny (Sherry) Bossick of Youngstown, Ohio. In addition, her sister in law Donna Heering of Port Huron, MI and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Gloria graduated from Brookfield High School in 1970. She then went on to attend Ben Melvin’s Tailoring School in Youngstown, Ohio and taught sewing classes. Ultimately, Gloria worked in retail most of her life, including several companies in St. Marys as well as owning a Christian Book Store in Hubbard, Ohio. She spent the last 20 years of her career managing Penn Highlands gift shop until her retirement.
She will be remembered for a life encompassed in music. Gloria was a talented dancer and singer. She spent her youth traveling the country with Continental and Sloga Tamburitzan groups with her family, directed by her Uncle Emil. Gloria took great pride in her Serbian and Hungarian heritage. Her favorite memories included family lamb roasts, dancing the Miserlou while her brothers and uncles played the instruments, and cooking traditional meals. She passed down her love of music to her children and grandchildren, and was always up for singing and dancing with them.
Gloria will ultimately be remembered as a caregiver. She devoted her life to raising her kids and supporting her family. Her family always knew they were loved, her grandchildren always felt how proud she was of them, and her extended family always felt welcome in her home. Her grandchildren knew there would always be ice cream, snacks, hugs, and praise when they were with her. She threw amazing pool parties in Hubbard, was known for her ability to sew or tailor anything her family needed, organized vacation bible school and prayer groups for her church family, and her extended family knew that Aunt Gabby was always ready to chat.
Gloria and her husband Bill also devoted their lives to ministry in the Catholic church. First as parishioners at St. Patrick’s Church and later through Sacred Heart Church. They were active in the Cursillo Movement. She partnered with Deacon Bill through their education and ministry. Whether helping him edit his homilies, reminding him of his schedule, or simply holding down the fort at home so he could minister, Gloria served God’s ministry.
We know that Gloria Jean, the Dancing Queen, danced her way into heaven. Reunited with her loved ones who have passed before her. In addition to her husband, Bill, she was welcomed by her parents, Elias and Rose, her brother Robert Bossick, sisters-in-law Marilyn Bossick and Barbara Bossick. As well as her in-laws, Francis and Sarah Gibson, John and Phyllis Gibson, Jim and Bev Gibson and Pat Heering.
