Gino W. Morelli, 93, of 148 Queens Road, Saint Marys, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 23, 1922 in Kersey, son of the late Tullio and Mary Corn Morelli. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Brockway High School Class of 1940 and a graduate of Penn State University Class of 1950. He was employed by Airco Speer as a chemical engineer and retired in 1986.
On July 12, 1947 in Saint Tobias Church in Brockway he married Angelina M. “Angie” Trombetta who preceded him in death on January 21, 2001.
He is survived by four daughters; Diane Hartland and her husband Raymond of Greensburg, PA; Darlene Nappe and her husband Michael of Saint Marys; Debbie Shuttleworth and her husband Steve of Dagus Mines; Denise Morelli and her husband Larry Carroll of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Duane Morelli and his wife Debbie of Lewisburg, PA; David Morelli and his wife Kim of West Decatur, PA; nine grandchildren: Kristi Swartz, Jon Hartland, Justin Nappe, Erin Bellavia, Amanda Vollmer, Meghan Shuttleworth, Scott Shuttleworth, Danielle Morelli and Brandy Suyerhoud. A sister Irma Torturella of Eastern, PA and a brother, Donald Morelli and his wife Josephine of Brockport.
Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rena Serafini, Evelyn Almenrode, Helen Bruno and by two brothers, Raymond Morelli and Brian Morelli.
Mr. Morelli was a member of the Queen of the World Church and a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Corp in the European Theatre. He did volunteer work at the Food Bank, the cafeteria at Queen of the World School, installed Life Lines. He enjoyed woodworking and also helped in the building of the Bavarian Hills Golf Club and was an avid golfer as well as an avid Penn State and Steeler fan. After his retirement he helped his children build and remodel their homes. He enjoyed being around people and helping them out when needed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM with The Reverend Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by the Saint Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail and the Pennsylvania Military Forces Honor Guard.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening, June 26, 2015, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
