Gertrude M. Gabert, 90, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Allison Park, PA, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at Elk Haven, after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 10, 1927, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Alois and Eva Mader Bodenlos. She was a graduate of St. Basil’s High School in Carrick, PA, and also a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Gertrude was a retired Cadet Nurse in the US Army, earning the rank of First Lieutenant, and serving during the Korean War. She moved to St. Marys in 2011.
On February 19, 1955, in St. Basil’s Church in Pittsburgh, Gertrude married James A. Gabert, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Hall and her husband Dr. Michael Hall of St. Marys; a son, Robert D. Gabert of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Matthew Hall, Zachary Hall, and Stephen Gabert; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Annarose LeConte of South Portland, ME and Margaret Connolly of Kentucky; and by a brother, Louis Bodenlos of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Gabert.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 11:00 Am, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
