George L. Georgevich, 95, of 226 Russ Lane, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at his son’s residence in Sewickley, PA.
He was born October 2, 1922, in Bitola, Yugoslavia, son of the late Lazar and Anna Talevich Georgevich. He had been a resident of St. Marys since 1936, was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1947, and attended Duquesne University. George was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring after 25 years of service.
On July 17, 1944, in the St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, in Tyler, PA, he married Louise M. Candido, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Gloria Petter and her husband Richard of Houston, TX, and Mary Louise Georgevich, PhD of Buffalo, NY; and by a son, Dr. Philip G. Georgevich of Sewickley, PA; three grandchildren, Christy, Justin, and Leah; two great granddaughters, Grace and Sofia; and by a sister, Elena Karanffilova of Canada.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister, Menka Kushovska.
George was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Living Rosary Association. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleet as a First Class Petty Officer. He served in Iwo Jima, Africa, and the invasion of Sicily.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Ananias, OSB, as celebrant. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
