Francis L. “Popeye” Cameroni, 88, of 310 Main Street, Kersey, passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 30, 2016, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born February 22, 1928 in Coal Hollow, son of the late Jack and Louise Agosti Cameroni. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Coal Hollow Schools. He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Company, retiring after 43 years of service.
On April 12, 1947, in the St. Boniface Church, he married Ruthetta L. Gahr, who preceded him in death on October 5, 1997.
Francis is survived by two daughters, Annette Sheffler of West Virginia and Carol McGill and her husband John of St. Marys; a granddaughter, Kimberly McGill and her husband Alex of Clarion; and by two great grandchildren, Aidan and Alexa McGill.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, George, Richard, Donald, LeRoy, and Robert Cameroni and Eugene at birth. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Francis was a member of the St. Boniface Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Gearing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Dagus Mines American Legion, and the Kersey Eagles. Francis enjoyed hunting with his brothers and taking care of his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
Visitation is at the St. Boniface Church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 AM.
