Elsie W. Cashmer

Elsie W. Cashmer, 83, of 295 West Theresia Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at her home, after a lengthy illness.

She was born November 16, 1935, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Brandt Wissinger. She was a lifelong resident of the area, was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1953, and was a graduate of St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1956.  She was a former employee of Community Nurses and was a retired registered nurse at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1993 with over 30 years of service.

On November 8, 1958, in the Sacred Heart Church, Elsie married Richard W. Cashmer, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Suzanne Pitman and her husband Ed of Grantville, PA; four sons, Michael Cashmer and his wife Linda of Kersey, David Cashmer and his wife Kim of Weedville, James Cashmer and his wife Veronica of DuBois, and John Cashmer and his wife Nicky of St. Marys; and nine grandchildren, Jessica Fritz, Tyler Cashmer, Tessa Cashmer, Mark Pitman, Rachel Pitman, Michaela Cashmer, Mitchell Cashmer, Makenzie Cashmer, Maddie Cashmer, and Hunter Cashmer.  Also surviving are two sisters, Rose Johnston of St. Marys and Juanita Uhl and her husband Charles of Kersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Long; and by a brother, George Wissinger.

Elsie was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, where she served on the social committee. She enjoyed watching wild birds and flower gardening.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, March 23, 2018, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Social Committee, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857; the Community Nurses, Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA  15857; or to the Hahne Regional Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA  15801.
