Elaine G. Higgins, 91, of 910 South Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born September 6, 1922 in Latrobe, PA, daughter of the late Louis and Hilda Schick Geary. She had been a resident of St. Marys since 1950. She was a graduate of Latrobe High School, Class of 1940 and the Greensburg School of Business. She retired from North Central Regional Planning and Development in 2000 after 30 years of service.
On December 28, 1948, in the Holy Family Church in Latrobe, she married Gerald C. Higgins, who preceded her in death on February 25, 2001.
She is survived by four daughters, Ann Crimaldi and her husband Anthony of Allentown, PA, Renee Anderson and her husband Paul of Shaker Heights, OH, Barbara Holley of St. Marys, and Eileen Krug of St. Marys; two sons, Michael P. Higgins and his wife Lisa of Germantown, TN and Timothy O. Higgins and his wife Melody of Dingmans Ferry, PA; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Geary of Greensburg.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Pritts and Agnes Blank; and four brothers, Edwin, Howard, Louis, and Roger Geary. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Higgins was a member of the Queen of the World Church, where she enjoyed volunteering in the cafeteria. She was an avid reader, attended exercise classes, and enjoyed the company of her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Monday, October 14, 2013, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday evening, October 13, 2013, from 6:00 till 8:00 PM.
