Edward H. Kuntz

Edward H. Kuntz, 90, a lifetime resident of St. Marys, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025 at his residence, with his family by his side.

He was born January 10, 1935 and was the seventh son of ten children to the late John A. and Marie Fox Kuntz.

He married his loving wife of sixty-one years, Carol A. Sterbank, on May 5, 1962 in Queen of the World Church. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2024.

Ed graduated from Central Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Accounting from St. Vincent College. He also attended Indiana State College.  Ed was a teacher of the eleventh grade at Mt. Pleasant High School.  He was also employed by the certified public accounting firm of Sharkey, Peterson and McGough.

Ed was employed at St. Marys Trust Company as Vice President of Trust and upon five mergers, namely Elk County Bank and Trust, First Laurel Bank, Penn Bank, Pennsylvania Bank and Trust Company, and retired after thirty years as Divisional Vice President of Trust, Northern Region of Integra Trust Company of Pittsburgh. He attended Bucknell University under the Pennsylvania Fiduciary Trust Division of Pennsylvania Bankers Association.  Ed earned his Master of Science Degree in Trust, in cooperation with Northwestern University and the American Bankers Association and was awarded the designation of National Financial Services Counselor.

Under the Selective Service Draft of the United States, Ed was inducted into the United States Army and served as Combat Engineer and Coordinator of Division Engineer Supply, Third Armored Division, European Allied Command, in Germany. After six years, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army.  He served on the Board of Directors and was the Treasurer of the Association of the 3rd Armored Division Veterans of the United States Army.

Ed was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Northwestern PA Fiduciary Association, Trust Division of the PA Bankers Association.  He was the Treasurer of the Borough of St. Marys for nineteen years, Commercial Chairman and Solicitor of the United Way of St. Marys and Benzinger Township.  Ed was a dedicated community member and was involved in many other organizations to serve the community of St. Marys.  He was a life member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, member of the American Legion, and a life member of the Association of the 3rd Armored Division Veterans. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Marys Historical Society and Coolspring Power Museum.

Ed was an outdoorsman and gardener.  He grew giant pumpkins up to 1,346 lbs and enjoyed many hobbies. Ed was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his wife Carol, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed the happy times they had together, including family gatherings at the cottage he built in Flower Valley and traveling on family vacations throughout North America.

Ed was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was involved for many years in projects to assist the church community.

He is survived by his sons, Doug Kuntz (Lynne), Robert Kuntz (Christine), daughter, Julie Brown (Michael); eight grandchildren: Heather (Trevor), Ryan (Jean), Zachary (Aurora), Derrick, Sarah, Michael, Meredith, and Thomas, three great-grandchildren Tycen, Gavyn and Marcus and his sister, Ann Margaret Keller (Jerome).

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Henry, Gerard, John, Francis, James, and Joseph Kuntz; and his sisters, Regina Smith and Mary Minns.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 12:00PM with Rev. Ignatius Camello, O.S.B., celebrating.  Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 10:15AM until 11:15AM.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Elk County Catholic School System, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
