Edward E. Alphonso, 84, of 112 Larch Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born January 4, 1938, in Johnsonburg, PA, son of the late Nicholas and Mary Gillis Alphonso. Ed was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1955. Ed was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was employed at Speer Carbon, Carbon/Graphite, and SGL for 45 years before retiring in 2000.
On July 31, 1965, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ed married Lois A. Weichman, who survives. They were blessed to share 57 years of marriage together.
Along with his loving wife, he is survived by a sister, Patricia Smith of Pottstown, PA and a brother, Norbert Alphonso of Kersey, and by nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Alphonso and by two sisters-in-law, Corrine Alphonso and Kathy Alphonso.
Ed was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the St. Marys American Legion Post 103, Elks Club, St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club where he shot trap for the Challenger’s Trap Team, and the NRA.
At Ed’s request, funeral services will be private where full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
His final resting place will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
